Award deadline approaching
The deadline for entries in NASW's Science in Society Journalism Awards is fast approaching. All entries must be postmarked by Feb. 1, 2009.
These awards, which are not subsidized by any commercial or professional interest, honor and encourage outstanding investigative and interpretive reporting about the sciences and their impact on society. Award winners receive a cash prize of $2,500 in each category and are invited to attend a dinner and presentation in their honor during the annual ScienceWriters meeting, held this year Oct. 16-20 in Austin, Texas.
The current awards are open to work published or broadcast between Jan. 1, 2008, and Dec. 31, 2008. Deadline for submissions: Postmarked Feb. 1, 2009.

- Books
- Commentary and opinion
- Science reporting
- Science reporting with a local or regional focus
