NASW Workshops 2000
and Other Events for Science Writers
updated 7 March 2000
Shake off those Y2K blues with a trip to Washington DC for the NASW workshops in advance of the American Association of Advancement of Science annual meeting. See the unofficial tourist guide prepared by science writers in DC with a map, information on restaurants and places to stay in the neighborhood.
This year's workshops begin at the National Institutes of Health on Wednesday afternoon, where science writers will attend two group talks and visit one of 10 labs for which they preregistered, followed by a reception. Grab lunch on your own before you arrive at NIH at 12:30 p.m..
Beginning with coffee at 7:15 a.m., Thursday workshops at the Marriott Wardman Park are organized around three overlapping topics: Journalism, freelance and public information. All registered NASW members are welcome to attend any Thursday workshop. A reception follows. NOTE: AUDIO TAPES OF SESSIONS NOW AVAILABLE.
NASW membership is mandatory for attending these workshops. Student members are excluded from the NIH workshops on Wednesday. All workshops are closed to further registration; deadline was 5 January. Scroll down for Wednesday and Thursday sessions at a glance.
