Science Cabaret at the October 27-28 Meeting
The Friday evening reception at our annual meeting will feature a special treat this year — along with the drinks and food, there will be first-class entertainment in the form of a science cabaret.
The cabaret will showcase three terrific performers who communicate science-based ideas through different media — music and comedy. We will see:
- Richard Milner, the singing Darwinian from the American Museum of Natural History, who will sing witty original songs about evolution, Stephen J. Gould, and his "Blues for Mr. Scopes." An anthropologist and first-class Darwin scholar, Richard has performed his one-man show, "Charles Darwin: A Musical Voyage of Discovery," all over the world.
- Brian Malow, one of the nation's premiere science comics, who will perform stand-up with a scientific sensibility. Brian has performed at comedy clubs across the country, on TV's Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, at the Koshland Museum of Science in Washington, and at corporate events for Apple, Dell, Microsoft, Texas Instruments, and 3M.
- Jonathan Coulton, the Contributing Troubadour for Popular Science magazine and the musical director for John Hodgman's Little Gray Book Lectures, who will sing some of the songs he's been publishing every week for the past year. Jonathan's podcast, a feature on his web site that he calls Thing a Week, has spawned a few honest-to-goodness internet smashes like "Code Monkey" and his folky cover of Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back."
Join us on Friday, October 27 for a festive evening
