This is an updated, expanded, and newly illustrated version of a book Young published in 1965, several years before becoming a science writer. Written for ages 5 to 9, Old Abe is the true story of an eagle that spent three years with a Union regiment fighting in the states bordering the southern Mississippi River, including at the Siege of Vicksburg, and his activities after the war.
