The News Release

The traditional way of telling your story is the news release. A good release presents clear, complete, and concise information. It should feature such key information as results and conclusions. To the journalist and the public, such information is the most important.

A good news release also includes perspective that clearly explains how and why the information released is new. This perspective can include a brief history of the work being discussed, as well as information on researchers at other institutions doing similar work.

The news release has four basic forms — for print, radio, TV and internet. Here are guidelines for producing each:
