I'm a freelance writer based in Lowell, Mass. Much of my work lately has to do with optics and telecommunications, but I'm also interested in astronomy, and I've even done the occasional health story. Once upon a time I was the health and education reporter for a small daily newspaper in Connecticut, until I left to attend the master's program in science journalism at Boston University. Later, I was an editor at Laser Focus World. I've been a full-time freelancer since March 2000.

I traveled to Australia just before the 2000 Olympics, and recorded some of my observations (unedited) for posterity.
