Jerry E. Bishop, 76, former deputy news editor for science, technology, and medicine at the Wall Street Journal--and a past president of the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing--died Oct. 26, 2007. (Obituary.)

Programs

New Horizons in Science Conference

The 46th annual meeting of New Horizons in Science will be held Oct. 24-28, 2008 at Stanford University, in Palo Alto, California. New Horizons will meet in conjunction with the National Association of Science Writers' ScienceWriters 2008 workshops, as part of Science Writers 2008. Registration begins August 1.

Taylor/Blakeslee University Fellowships

CASW awards fellowships of $2,000 to students enrolled in U.S. graduate-level science writing programs to help defray the cost of tuition. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. The deadline for applying is July 1, 2008. Application

The Victor Cohn Prize
for Excellence in Medical Science Reporting

The deadline for nominations for the Cohn Prize is July 31, 2008. The honoree receives an award of $3,000, a certificate, and travel expenses to attend the award ceremony at the annual banquet of the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing and the National Association of Science Writers.
