Scholarship & Opportunity
I am a freelance science writer based in St. Louis, Missouri. My background is in biomedical engineering and hospital epidemiology, but I have written about a wide variety of subjects including cancer genetics, Antarctic geology, algae-based biofuels, theoretical physics, dental care for children, nanotechnology, archaeology, acid rain, and agriculture. I am a frequent contributor to the St. Louis Beacon.
I have interviewed prominent scientists including Peter Raven, president of the Missouri Botanical Garden, Barbara Schaal, evolutionary biologist and member of President Obama's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, and Neil deGrasse Tyson, astrophysicist and host of PBS's NOVA ScienceNOW.
I love learning new things, talking to people who love what they do, and conveying that passion to my readers.
I am a member of the National Association of Science Writers and the Association of Health Care Journalists. I am a 2009 Missouri Health Journalism Fellow.
