The Flaw is Human:
The End of the Human Genome Reclamation Project, a story about the
consequences of benign eugenics, appeared in the August 31, 2000 issue of the
scientific journal Nature, which ran a series of short science fiction stories
in the year 2000 only (in a section called 'Futures'). Arthur C. Clarke kicked
it off in late 1999, and other authors included Poul Anderson, Hal Clement, and
Kathryn Cramer.
Lactose
Intolerance, a tale of consumerism about to run rampant, appeared on the
now-defunct webzine HMS Beagle, also in August of 2000.
Conventions: I travel frequently to
science fiction conventions and occasionally help organize them (VikingCon in
Bellingham, Washington, and Norwescon in Seattle, Washington, CapClave in
Washington, DC to be specific). I often appear as a panelist, discussing
biotechnology, medicine, and the role of science in science fiction.
Astrogoths: My friend Julie McGalliard,
creator of Goth House, came up with a
concept for goths in space. I got inspired and wrote
Dark Matter, which
is intended to be a short film and owes much to the first Star Trek movie.
