2012 Internship Fair

NASW student members looking for great internships, or news and science organizations looking for top-flight interns, should plan to attend the 2012 NASW Internship Fair. The fair will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the 2012 AAAS meeting in Vancouver, B.C., in the Mackenzie Room of the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel.

Recruiters, please contact fair coordinator Jenny Cutraro at jenny@nasw.org to reserve a table. Students and directors of science writing programs, please note your COMPLETE AND PAID applications for NASW membership at either the regular membership level or student level MUST be received by Wednesday, Feb. 1, to be eligible to participate in the fair. Visit http://www.nasw.org/join/ for information on joining NASW.

Attendance at the internship fair is limited to current students or those who have graduated within the past 12 months. All attendees are required to be current members of NASW.

Students: Please keep in mind that the Fair is intended to be an opportunity for NASW student members to learn about an organization's internship program and introduce themselves to recruiters to make a quick first impression. Meetings with recruiters are limited to five minutes each. Typically, recruiters may identify prospective interns at the Fair, but follow-up interviews and screening are certainties. Signup will be on the day of the Fair only, and you must be a member or a student member of NASW to participate. Please be prepared. Make sure you have proof of NASW membership and 20 copies of your resume, a list of references, and clips to share with recruiters. Because of time constraints, you may not be able to meet with all recruiters, but you may leave a resume with each and follow up at your discretion during or after the AAAS meeting. The internship fair is a long day; you may wish to bring drinks and snacks with you. Because the fair takes place at the AAAS annual meeting, you must register in advance with the AAAS newsroom at http://meeting2012.aaas.org/pressreg/default.aspx.

Internship coordinators: Please come to the Fair 10-15 minutes before the start time. It will be helpful for everyone if recruiters have informational handouts about their organizations' internship opportunities. Please bring 50 copies. Recruiting organizations are encouraged to consider having two people work the Fair to facilitate the volume of students seeking internships. NASW volunteers will be on hand to help recruiters and students as much as possible. Contact Jenny Cutraro at jenny@nasw.org to reserve your table.
