Jerry Bishop Named to Win First Award from Research Group


Jerry E. Bishop, deputy news editor of The Wall Street Journal, is the first recipient of the Distinguished Journalism Award of the Association of Independent Research Institutes. Bishop was recognized by the Association for his extensive contributions to the public understanding of biological research and clinical medicine.

The $2000 cash award to Bishop was presented during the 34th Annual Meeting of the Association held in Washington, DC, on September 27th. Association President Kenneth P. Trevett called Bishop "one of the truly outstanding journalists writing today on the research enterprise." He noted that Bishop "is uniquely skilled at translating complex scientific subjects into words which the lay public finds not only understandable, but compelling."
