All members should have received the l998 Membership Directory by now. If your name is missing, it's because your dues arrived too late.
Starting October 15, NASW members will be able to charge dues, banquet tickets, workshops, booklets, mailing lists (whatever) on VISA and MASTERCARD (but not AMERICAN EXPRESS). Until then, Diane is busily reading the instruction book for the credit card modem.
There will be an election in October and ballots are due before December l so the new board can be announced in the end-of-year Treasurer's letter and dues renewal. The same mailing will ask for banquet and workshop reservations. The deadline for reservations is January 8, or you will not be able to attend. Because the AAAS meeting is earlier than past year, we must have all reservations in by this deadline -- period.
As moneys are received, members will be issued a workshop reservation number. This is being done to ensure that those who pay in advance will be guaranteed a seat. Last year many members who paid early were unable to get in because the rooms were filled with last-minute walk-ins. To ensure a seat, fill out and return your reservation ASAP. Deadlines this year have never been more important. And, finally, students who wish to attend the AAAS meeting and workshops (space permitting) and/or participate in the Mentoring Program must be a paid NASW Student Member by January l.
