I am a Seattle-based writer who specializes in news items, feature articles, and blog posts on science and medicine-related topics.

Prior to becoming a science writer, I was a research scientist: I earned a PhD in Population Biology, Ecology, and Evolution and an MPH in Global Epidemiology from Emory University before doing postdoctoral work at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

I’ve always loved communicating exciting findings to the public, and now I do it full-time as a freelance writer. My specialty areas include oncology, cancer, the microbiome, genetics, epigenetics, infectious diseases, HIV, hepatitis, population health, epidemiology, global health, and psychiatric disorders.

My work has been published in places such as
Science, AIDS, Cancer Discovery, Clinical Laboratory News, ChemMatters, The Scientist, and BiteSize Bio, as well as on the Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science blog. You can check them out at https://kristinharper.contently.com/.
