Services for employers and writers
The National Association of Science Writers brings publishers and others seeking experienced science writers access to more than 2,000 highly skilled professionals in fields from biology, chemistry, and medicine to ecology, astronomy, and the technological spectrum.
Whether you are an employer seeking to fill a full-time or part-time staff position; an editor offering assignments to (or inviting proposals from) freelancers for articles, books, or other projects; or a scientist who needs a collaborating wordsmith to polish your prose — we offer several ways to reach our members.
You can advertise your needs to our membership of more than 2,000 science writers by using this form to place an ad on the ScienceWriters job forum. Upon receipt of payment, your ad will remain visible for 90 days on the forum, and a copy will be sent by email to all members who have requested immediate notification of new ads. You may also request to be billed for your ad, although that will result in a slight delay in its posting. Ads for one-time freelance assignments, narrowly defined, may be placed for no charge upon approval by our staff. See the job ad page for details.
If you would prefer to browse our list of members and their web sites, please see our Find a writer page, where members can choose to list their names, specialties, areas of expertise and web site addresses.
For less urgent needs, you can also place an ad in our quarterly magazine, ScienceWriters, which goes to all of our members and non-member subscribers. See the advertise page for ad rates and other details.
Also on the advertise page, you will find instructions for ordering either of our two postal mailing lists, one including all members and the other limited to members working in the news media. Both lists are strictly limited to one-time use for each purchase. We do not make our member email addresses available for sale, nor do we distribute emails to our members on behalf of advertisers.
If you are a member of the National Association of Science Writers, you can make your availability known to potential employers or clients by listing yourself on our Find a writer page. To activate your listing, log in with your member ID and password, then use the "edit profile" link at the top of this page and enter a primary web site address on the "Additional information" tab. Be sure that the web site you list has clear instructions for contacting you. Regular (not student) members who do not have a web site can create one on our server at no charge. Instructions here.
Members can also review the past 90 days of advertisements placed by employers and others seeking full-time, part-time, contract or freelance help by going to the ScienceWriters job forum page. Subscriptions providing email notification of all new ads are also available to members. If you are not already a member, you can apply for regular or student membership.
