Princeton University seeks a Media Relations Officer/Science Writer to share the stories of one of the world's premier institutions with its external and internal audiences. This mid-career level position serves as part of the news team in the Office of Communications, working to ensure coverage of the teaching, research and service missions of the University, with a special emphasis on the sciences.  

S/he assists the Media Relations Manager in responding to a high volume of requests from media representatives, writing and pitching stories and other materials, and supporting faculty and staff efforts to appear in the media.  The incumbent also develops ideas, researches tips and writes stories for internal media, including the Princeton Weekly Bulletin and the Web.

In addition, this person writes and edits other materials produced by the Office of Communications, including print publications and Web pages, and oversees the science and technology page that is part of the University news site.
 
This position requires a bachelor’s degree and five years of successful journalistic experience in a news setting, including experience in science reporting.  An advanced degree and experience in higher education are preferred.

Responsibilities: Our client is looking for a Senior Scientific Medical Writer or a Scientific Medical Writer to be based in New Jersey.

Responsibilities will include

• Medical writing activities for projects,
• Providing full life-cycle support from clinical study protocols through regulatory dossier preparation and submission.
• Candidates will be accountable for the quality, implementation and timeliness of medical writing deliverables across all therapeutic areas including
Clinical study reports (phases 1 to 4),
Clinical study protocols,
Investigational drug brochures,
Integrated Summaries of Efficacy and Safety,
Literature reviews, background and overview of clinical investigations.
• Guidance and support to all contributors on a project with regard to format, style, content, scheduling issues and use of the electronic repository (GlobeDoc) will be part of the responsibilities. • You will ensure that clinical documents adhere to global standards, FDA, ICH and GCP guidelines and are in accordance with electronic publishing standards.
• You will also provide peer review for other medical writers and will mentor junior medical writing staff at technical, study and project level.

Required Experience

• A Bachelor's Degree with 8-10 years experience in preparing clinical research documentation or a Masters degree with 5-7 years experience or a PhD with at least 3-5 years experience in preparing clinical research documentation.
• The key is to bring clinical writing expertise to the position. Excellent written and oral communications skills, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
• You must be familiar with all phases of medical research and be able to learn new medical concepts quickly as well as be conversant in statistics and experimental design.
• You should have the ability to synthesize complex data and determine relationships.
• A specific therapeutic background is not important for either level of the position.
• Scientific Medical Writer: Bachelor's Degree required; 3-4 years experience in Scientific Writing; PhD does not require industry experience.

Base Salary: $80,000-$100,000 (open to discussion)

Bonus: Potential for annual bonus of 7% of base salary

FREELANCE MEDICAL WRITERS FOR NCLEX PREP BOOK

Position:
The 81-year-old free-access medical research journal, the Journal of Clinical Investigation (www.jci.org) is seeking a News and Reviews Editor to join us immediately in our NYC offices on the campus of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons on 168th Street.

Description:
The News and Reviews Editor oversees writing, editing and coordination of the News section, the Book Review section, the Review Series, the ‘In this Issue’ page, and press relations. The News and Reviews Editor will also be responsible for representing the JCI at biomedical research meetings. The News and Reviews Editor will be involved in discussions of strategies to attract and publish diverse, cutting-edge science.

Scope of the work:
The News and Reviews Editor is responsible for writing the News section for each issue and for orchestrating the expansion of the section. This Editor will be responsible for selecting and writing the ‘In This Issue’ page as well. The News and Reviews Editor will coordinate the selection of books and reviewers, and aid in the editing and submission of Book Reviews. The News and Reviews Editor will also be responsible for 5-6 Review Series per annum, which involves coordinating topics, authors, and editing of articles in addition to commissioning associated art. This position will work closely with the Executive Editor and Science Editor in identifying editorial content and contributors. The News and Reviews Editor will be the primary interface for the JCI with the lay press and will be responsible for writing and dissemination of press releases on published research. The News and Reviews Editor will be responsible for attending at least 3 scientific meetings annually to help attract submission of the best biomedical research.

Qualifications required:
M.D. or Ph.D. in biomedical science a minimum. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of biomedical science and some experience working with and describing cutting-edge topics in research and of the social, ethical, and political issues arising in biomedical research. A key aspect of the job is communicating with the scientific community, so the successful candidate must be dynamic and outgoing with strong interpersonal skills. Previous editorial experience is an advantage but is not essential.
