Vote on amendments to NASW bylaws on Oct. 29 or cast proxy now

For your consideration, below are proposed revisions to the NASW bylaws. These changes have the potential to save money, streamline decision-making, and lead to more transparent NASW governance. In many cases, they are clarifications of language.

In addition, a group of 39 members petitioned last fall to amend Article IV, Section 1 and change the qualifications for officer. That section is noted here as well for the sake of completeness. It will be called out separately in the voting. For background, and to discuss this amendment, see www.nasw.org/article/proposed-amendment-background-discussion-comments.

The proposed bylaws revisions are shown in a "track changes" format, such that deletions appear as a strikethrough in the text, additions appear in bold, and rationale for more involved changes appears in italics.

The NASW membership will vote (in person or by proxy) on the revisions and, separately, the proposed amendment at the annual membership meeting on Saturday, October 29, 2016. This meeting is scheduled for 8:00 am in the Iberian Ballroom at the Omni La Mansion del Rio in San Antonio, Texas.

Regular members should review the changes noted in the PDF below and come prepared to vote. If you are unable to attend, you may register your choices on the proposed amendment and bylaw revisions online, by responding to your individual proxy invitation. Student and honorary members are welcome to attend the membership meeting but may not vote.
