Non-profits expand into investigative journalism

Activist organizations in the U.S. and Europe are stepping into the void left by budget cuts at news media businesses, according to this report on the Editors Weblog site. "Two front-page investigations published in The Guardian last October were from NGOs," writer Florence Pichon says. "In addition, a BBC Panorama broadcast on e-waste in Africa received much of its evidence from a London-based environmental NGO." U.S. ventures such as ProPublica are also mentioned.
