Here's the latest communique from the NASW board on what we're up to on your behalf.
NASW update
Transparency is the buzzword. This is the execution -- or at least the beginning of it. The board plans to send member updates about once a month, news permitting, to keep you apprised of our activities on your behalf.
The NASW Executive Board has been actively chatting about many things via our email group. The biggest news has already been communicated: the change in running for the board and the officer succession, which President Lee Hotz discusses in the upcoming issue of ScienceWriters.
Here are some of the highlights of the NASW board discussions and activities in the last few months. In a saucy flouting of journalistic best practices, these are in no particular order.
The frost is on the pumpkin; time for NASW's 2006 Science in Society Meeting, Oct. 27 and 28. Over 400 people have signed up to attend. We can't wait to see you in Baltimore! Also: Two additions to the NASW web site.

NASW's new grievance committee, news about the internship fair and mentoring program, the NASW bookstore and web site changes, and other important notices.
News about the NASW/CASW joint meeting, selection of a designer for the NASW web site, plans for a series of service articles focusing on the business of freelancing, and an update on insurance.
Updates on plans for NASW's Authors Coalition funds and a panel on science writing for the Asian American Journalists Association in the Twin Cities Aug. 17-20.
