Governance Committee seeks volunteers

The NASW Governance Committee seeks several detail-oriented and thoughtful volunteers interested in contributing to our 2,200+ member community’s governance. The committee works to ensure that the organization's policies and practices meet legal and moral obligations, represent our members effectively, and are to standards of due diligence. In addition to recommending best practices for the board to consider, the committee works in collaboration with board members to identify areas of policy and governance that need evaluation or update.

What's involved: You'll be part a small committee that meets via conference call every other month to discuss ongoing proposals and research policies and issues. In between calls, members collaborate on crafting proposals and recommendations using Google docs. Committee members often seek input from peer organizations to benchmark policies or research issues. Every ~5 years, the Committee will undertake a comprehensive review of the bylaws in cooperation with NASW Board members and the Executive Director to ensure we are in compliance with any changing legal standards and are consistent with our mission.

To volunteer, send an email to governance@nasw.org with the subject line “Governance Committee Volunteer” by November 1. Include a few short grafs about yourself, your experiences and interests. We are especially interested in a few volunteers who have previous leadership or volunteer experience with peer organizations.
