NASW joins SPJ-led coalition in urging rejection of federal nondisclosure rule

On June 9, 2026, NASW joined the Society of Professional Journalists and 22 other journalism organizations in urging the Federal Government to reject a proposed rule that would make it permissible for federal agencies to require all new and current employees to sign nondisclosure agreements.

The letter notes that, "if adopted, the rule would give the federal government a powerful weapon to silence public employees and trample on the free speech rights guaranteed to them by the United States Constitution."

The letter is posted in full here.
