The National Association of Science Writers and the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing are excited to announce that ScienceWriters2025 will take place in Chicago, November 7-9, at the Marriott Chicago O’Hare. We are thrilled to be able to bring the community together this fall in a city with vibrant cultural and scientific opportunities. In this challenging time, we are pleased to have secured a convenient midwestern location with reasonable rates, which we hope will keep costs lower for attendees. The virtual portion of the conference will take place online October 22-24.
After announcing in early March that we were seeking a new conference location, we received an outpouring of support and offers to help from individuals, institutions, and the science writing community at large. We sincerely thank everyone who reached out, many of whom put in a great deal of time and energy into exploring alternatives.
As in 2024, NASW and CASW are partnering to fund and organize the conference with the support of foundations and other supporters. Details will be announced soon.
Conference events will begin on Friday evening, November 7, with the majority of sessions taking place on Saturday and Sunday. Select pre-conference workshops will take place on Friday and any post-conference events on Monday, November 10. Program information and a registration will be available in late summer. In addition to keeping costs down for attendees, we are working on programs for travel support. Watch sciencewriters2025.org for news and updates.
We recognize that the prior uncertainty surrounding the conference may have discouraged some session proposals. In light of today's announcement, NASW is reopening the window for proposals for a limited time. Please submit your professional development session ideas at https://nasw.submittable.com/submit. The new deadline for proposals is 11 a.m. Eastern on Monday, May 5.
We welcome all proposals. We are especially looking for ideas that touch on diversity, equity, and inclusion issues, mental health and burnout, or skills that science writers can use to navigate the current information landscape.
We look forward to seeing you in Chicago.
Sincerely,
The ScienceWriters2025 Steering Committee
