The NASW Freelance Committee virtual meetup on November 5 will be a business chat on how to find and apply for writing fellowships. To speak on the subject, we have invited freelance science journalist and NASW vice president Jyoti Madhusoodanan.

In order to turn an ambitious idea into a published story, freelance journalists often need a fellowship to provide funding and editorial guidance. Jyoti will offer tips on finding the right fellowship, crafting a competitive application and securing an editor’s letter of support. This will be an informal meeting with plenty of time for Q&A.

Speaker provided bio:

Jyoti Madhusoodanan is an award-winning journalist with more than 10 years of experience covering science and health for The New York Times, Scientific American, Nature, Undark magazine, and many other outlets. Her work has been supported by fellowships and grants from MIT’s Knight Science Journalism Program, the Alicia Patterson Foundation, the Civic Science program and others. She currently works at the Association of Health Care Journalists as program manager, overseeing the organization's various fellowship programs. Madhusoodanan also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Science Writers, Association of Health Care Journalists and the Knight Science Journalism program at MIT.
