Virtual Business Chat: Writing Wikipedia Profiles
Presented by the NASW Freelance Committee and NASW Advance Copy Column

Date: Thursday, March 7, 2024
Start Time: 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT
Event Access Link: https://www.nasw.org/virtual-events-auditorium (member login required)

The NASW Freelance Committee virtual meetup for March will be a business chat on how to write Wikipedia profile pages. To speak on the topic, volunteer hosts Jennifer Huber and Ellen Kuwana have invited Wikipedia volunteer editor Mary Brau. Mary will share guidelines and tips for writing a Wikipedia bio. In particular, she'll walk us through her written handout (see link below) on how to navigate Wikipedia's sophisticated set of policies and procedures that "can feel like drinking from a firehose for new WP writers and editors."

This meetup will launch a NASW project of writing Wikipedia profiles for participating NASW authors, particularly those from under-represented groups. The project is a collaborative effort of the NASW Freelance Committee and the NASW Advance Copy column — which is working toward establishing as the NASW Books Committee. Anyone interested in joining or co-leading this new committee should contact Lynne Lamberg and Lina Zeldovich at books@nasw.org.

Invited Speaker:

Before retiring, she taught remedial math and expository writing at Lane Community College and Pellissippi State Community College, as well as writing and study skills at the University of Oregon."

If time allows, stick around after the guest talk for some virtual networking with fellow NASW colleagues. See you on March 7!
