Pitching is critical to a successful freelance business, but it can also be the first step to growing a broader network in the science journalism community. Nature Careers editor Kendall Powell will join freelance science journalist Virginia Gewin for a chat about pitching stories—and how to use pitches to build a fruitful journalist-editor relationship.

Kendall will share some examples of successful pitches and describe the kinds of details that pique her interest. We’ll discuss how to avoid the common trap of pitching a topic, not a story, and what new writers can do to get an editor to take a chance on them. Bring your questions and join the discussion.
