For 2022, we are excited to offer attendees the best of each medium, in-person or virtual. In Memphis, we’ll leap to getting outdoors with field trips and local tours, while multiple networking events will bring attendees together. The dynamic nature of Memphis’ riverfront and downtown — with Beale Street a short walk from the hotel — will provide plenty of opportunities during unscheduled hours. Online, we’ll lean into the skills workshops, small group breakouts, and vibrant discussions we’ve enjoyed these past two years alongside virtual attendees from all over the world. Several sessions, including the popular NASW Pitch Slam and the CASW Patrusky Lecture, will be available to both virtual and in-person attendees in real time. And our Whova conference app will keep attendees connected no matter where they are.

Explore our full conference program today and register. We especially invite you to attend our NASW plenary "Confronting Race in Science" — and our welcome reception at the National Civil Rights Museum on Friday, October 21, hosted by St. Jude. NASW and CASW also are partnering with MLK50: Justice Through Journalism — a nonprofit Memphis newsroom focused on poverty, power, and public policy — on special programming in connection with the conference.

Our annual professional development conference is organized by science writers for science writers. Science writers, science writing students, science writing instructors — and anyone working in journalism, communications, and beyond whose work intersects with the need for science news is welcome to participate. Online or onsite, we look forward to seeing you this October!

COVID-19 event policy and information available at ScienceWriters2022.org/COVID19. As you save the date for our professional development conference, please take time to review our newly posted event advisory regarding COVID-19 health and safety policies. This latest conference update covers vaccination, masking, and other requirements and recommendations for your participation in the in-person portion of our annual meeting in Memphis. We hope these policies provide you with a level of clarity and expectations to help inform your travel plans this October, and we will continue to monitor pandemic trends in the months approaching our meeting.

Conference grant information available at sciencewriters2022.org/grants. We acknowledge that not everyone can easily attend professional events. NASW attendance support grants can help offset your expenses — whether for arranging family care to join us virtually, or for traveling. CASW travel fellowships also available.
