Ever wanted to start your own publication? Despite numerous media outlet closures in recent years, several niche publications have emerged. This month’s NASW Freelance Committee bizchat will feature a panel of creators from niche publications, including Sequencer magazine, The Transmitter, Wildlife Investigators Reporters & Editors, and the Journal of Medical Internet Research. Panelists will share how they started their news outlet, the challenges they faced, and how they are growing their readership. They will also share any opportunities for freelancers.
Invited panelists

- Nicholette Zeliadt, managing editor of The Transmitter
- Rene Ebersole, editor-in-chief and co-founder of Wildlife Investigators Reporters & Editors
- Kayleigh Clegg, scientific news editor, Journal of Medical Internet Research
