Would you like an insider's view of how writing contests work and what makes a particular entry shine? Would you like to collaborate with science writers and editors from all across the country? Would you like to get experience with crafting an effective press release?
The NASW Awards Committee is recruiting a volunteer to serve as the coordinator for the Excellence in Institutional Writing Awards honoring the work of writers who communicate and represent the science that comes out of our universities, nonprofits, and research organizations, and often have fewer options for their work to receive recognition. The coordinator position is an excellent role for an institutional writer or aspiring institutional writer who cares about our trade and craft and wants to see the profession flourish. It's also a great role for someone with good organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and yes, stellar email writing abilities. The anticipated time commitment is roughly 40 hours for the whole year, or about 3 hours a month.
If this sounds like a role for you, please send a short statement of interest to the Awards Committee via awards@nasw.org by Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026.
The NASW Awards Committee is co-chaired by Aparna Vidyasagar and Charna Albert.
