Congratulations to the 2020 NASW Travel Fellows to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting, set for Feb. 13-16 in Seattle, Wash.
NASW relies on the dedication and hard work of volunteers throughout the year. Without the time and effort of these members, NASW’s programming, member resources, and awards, grants and mentorship opportunities wouldn’t exist. In 2019, more than 300 volunteers served on 13 active committees, in addition to the volunteer Board. We’ve highlighted some of their accomplishments below.
Jennifer Cox, who recently retired as a science writer and communications director at North Carolina State University, has been elected to the NASW Board as a board-member-at-large.
NASW’s PIO Committee is seeking proposals from NASW members interested in hosting, planning, organizing and conducting a regional workshop focused on professional development and networking for early-career PIOs, journalists transitioning to PIO roles, and generalist PIOs seeking more training in science communication.
NASW’s programs, awards and activities wouldn’t happen without more than 200 members who step up annually as volunteers. Each year, NASW recognizes a volunteer or volunteers who went beyond the call of duty with its Diane McGurgan Service Award. Shraddha Chakradhar and Ashley Smart are the 2019 recipients.
The National Association of Science Writers (NASW) is again sponsoring several exciting programs for student journalists during the AAAS meeting, being held next in Seattle, Washington.
