Travel grants

Primary tabs

Throughout the year, NASW offers a variety of travel fellowships, including subsidies for writers and students to attend our annual ScienceWriters conference. Application periods and instructions will be announced via nasw.org.

The NASW Travel Fellowship to AAAS is one of three signature programs of the NASW Education Committee (together with the NASW Mentoring Program and NASW Internship Fair). The fellow experience includes specialized training and guidance on how to cover a meeting and how to report and structure stories, and several rounds of one-on-one editing by NASW volunteers.

Congratulations to this year's NASW Travel Fellows. These 10 undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds and educational institutions were selected by the NASW Education Committee to attend this year's AAAS annual meeting Feb. 16-20, in Boston. Each fellow will receive up to $1,000 to assist with travel. Fellows will each write a story for publication on the NASW website, and participate in the NASW mentoring program and NASW internship fair.

NASW helped 10 undergraduates majoring in biology, English, physics, journalism, mathematics, neuroscience, and environmental studies by awarding them fellowships to attend the recently concluded annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. As part of their fellowship obligations, the students filed reports on selected AAAS sessions. You can read their reports on our event coverage page.
